Special Olympics is an international organisation providing year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. At the 2015 Special Olympics World Summer Games in Los Angeles, California, 115 athletes represented Great Britain earning 179 medals. None of the athletes who competed were from Gloucestershire. Special Olympics Gloucestershire are working to change this by working with local organisations and sports clubs. We want to create more opportunities in sport for individuals with a learning disability countywide.
Special Olympics Gloucestershire is honoured to support Ben on his swim. His ‘nothing is impossible’ attitude encompasses our ethos. We believe every individual should be able to access sports training and have the opportunity to excel in those sports through a competition pathway. The Special Olympics moto, repeated by athletes before competing, is "Let me win, but if I cannot win, let me be brave in the attempt." With this we wish Ben the best of luck and look forward to being part of the celebrations when he returns!
